On 20th May 2016 TATOA together with other local and Rwandese stakeholders organized a first of its kind Tanzania - Rwanda Trade Forum in Kigali, Rwanda. The forum was aimed as a networking event for high level Government officials involved in trade facilitation as well as private sector operators from both Tanzania and Rwanda. TATOA delegation was led by its Chairperson Angelina Ngalula ; Board Directors Elias Lukumay, Chief Lusekelo Mwakibete, Rahim Dossa, Saad Ismail and its Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel Kakuyu.
At
the Forum, TATOA was able to hold talks and make tentative cooperation
agreements with its Rwandese counterparts. One of these included a
tentative agreement of cooperation with the Rwanda Transporters
Association and Rwanda Freight Forwarders Association. These agreements
will see members of the relative associations getting assistance when
encountering problems in their counterparts’ respective countries. These
agreements will also help boost trade between TATOA and members of the
other organizations.
TATOA
also held talks with the Rwanda Private Sector Foundation (RPSF) and
agreed on cooperation where the RPSF indicated that they might be
interested to enter into an MoU with TATOA to use members’ trucks for
their transport needs. The agreement, if finalized, will see TATOA
members set special rates for members of RPSF which in turn will help
increase trade between members of the two organizations. TATOA also held
talks with a number of individual Rwandese businesses for them to use
trucks belonging to members.
The
forum which is planned to be held every year was sponsored on behalf of
TATOA by Bravo Logistics, Simba Logistics, Usangu Logistics, NAM
Enterprises and SIMERA Transport.
