Poachers kill hero Brit Roger Gower who helped tackle
the ivory trade
The 38-year-old, dubbed Captain Roger, was helping rangers tackle Tanzania’s illegal ivory trade when one of the gang blasted his chopper with an AK-47 assault rifle.
He managed to land in a game reserve but died from his wounds before rescuers could reach him. It is thought a passenger was injured. Roger, who had dedicated his life to wildlife, was searching for the gang after the corpses of two slaughtered elephants were found.
